Subject: Boxer 22 SAR 50th Anniversary Commemoration, 5 Dec
2019, JBSA-Randolph
12 TFW Veterans,
I would first like to pass a belated greeting. I have enjoyed being a part
of 12th TFW Association and have some current information to pass about a
special event. I would love to have as much representation from the 12th
TFW as possible. Guests will be treated as royalty because we are being
hosted by the current 12th "Flying Training Wing," and 558th "Flying
Training Squadron." The lineage continues and I would love to meet
alumni.
I am sending the latest information about the 50th Anniversary
commemoration of the Boxer 22 Search and Rescue (SAR) operation. Updates
will be posted as they develop, and you can always reach me directly for
questions. After a bit of a struggle, I was able to acquire 2 decent
options for lodging and details are at the bottom of the email. I have
already received enthusiastic RSVPs from some members of the PJ community
as well as from Woodie Bergeron (BOXER 22B).
Details:
Commanders Intent
To stage a 50th Anniversary commemoration of the Boxer 22 Search and Rescue
(SAR) operation to honor my father, Capt Benjamin Danielson, 558 TFS (KIA)
and his backseater, then, Lt Woodrow “Woodie” Bergeron (rescued); the
sacrifices of the Jolly crews (A1C David M. Davidson KIA), Sandy pilots,
and fighter crews, who supported the largest search and rescue mission of
the Vietnam War; and all the families affected. Also, to provide an
opportunity to pass on to the next generation of American Airmen a link to
their rich warrior past.
Who?
Anyone who is interested and would like to help celebrate a piece of
history.
What?
50th Anniversary of Boxer 22 SAR. Dinner on the Anniversary date (dress
code: Business casual), and a base wide panel (dress code: Casual) with
select members of Boxer 22 SAR. Will also provide an information session
for those who would like to know about the recent plans for Boxer 22
Memorial and trip to Ban Phanop for those who may be interested.
Additional closing Happy Hour at Parr Club.
When?
Dinner starting at 1700 (cocktails first) on 5 December 2019 at Randolph
Parr O’ Club, and panel location will be passed when approved by current
USAF leadership. Thoughts are to have the panel in the "Ben Danielson
Memorial Auditorium" at the 558th Flying Training Squadron. We are still
working on guest speaker arrangements but are hopeful.
Where?
Joint Base Randolph. Officers club and potentially the 558th FTS, or
Fleenor Auditorium. 2 Lodging options have been provided below.
Why?
To honor the sacrifice and bravery of our past. Enjoy some time to reflect
on things that have made our country a great nation.
Hope to see you at the commemoration!
Brian Danielson
