On the home page you will see a red header bar at the top of the page with a “Welcome Guest. Please Login or Register” label on the right side. You can ignore that--you need not register as a member to use the website and forum, although 194 individuals have registered, and there are benefits such as being able to "like" forum articles, create and edit a profile, and set up notifications, but if you prefer, as a "guest" you can read and reply to the posts on the forum and create your own. The home page typically has an average of 100 users per day, and consists of two columns. The left column, titled “Association Web Pages” consists of a list of 17 links to other sections of the website. The “Welcome Page” link provides introductory material about the Association, and that page has had over 264,000 visitors since it was initiated in 1996. The titles of the other links indicate the type of material which will be found. The “Members Only” section is intended only for Association members and contains items such as newsletters, a membership roster, and stories written by members. To access that section, use the password you have been given. Some documents found there, such as the member roster, individually have the password protection for extra security in case they might migrate outside of the members only section. Regarding the “Email Discussion Group” item, there are two Google Groups, one for general members and one that focuses on aircrew interests. There are 60 members of these groups and there are daily exchanges of messages of a wide variety of subjects. If you would like to join, send me an email.
The right column of the home page, titled “Association Forum,” is an informal bulletin board-type section that was initiated in 2013 and provides areas where anyone can post a message about any topic, and users can also “like” and/or reply to posts. By clicking the title of a “board” you will enter the board where you can click on a subject and it will take you to a single post or a “string” or “thread” of posts on that subject. There is a “Reply” button where you can reply to the post. If there are several posts and you want to reply to other than the bottom one of the thread, click the “Quote” button on the post. Also, once you have clicked on a particular board, you have the option of starting a new subject thread by clicking “Create Thread” on the red bar at the top of the board.
On the left side of the red bar at the top of the home page there is a “Help” label which links to detailed help on using the forum, prepared by the software developers.
The forum gets a lot of traffic. For example, I see that one item, a poem titled “I Flew” on the “Flying” board has had over 4800 viewers, but there have not been as many contributors as I had expected. All individuals are invited to post as desired. Questions, comments, and suggestions about the website and forum are welcome.
Enjoy!
